Plus One- Part 4
On Sunday I meet with Duncan at his apartment to discuss the changes in our plan. Duncan doesn't seem at all surprised and tells me that he too has been working on Candace's personal life.
"Last night," he says, "Candace met a college football player who is projected to be a first round draft pick. The only problem is he's gay and isn't ready to come out yet. We agreed to start a fake relationship too until the next step in our plan."
"Well," I respond, "I guess everything is OK then, but what if someone tries to look deeper into our lives?"
"Don't worry about that," Duncan replies, "That has already been taken care of. Candace was orphaned and grew up with couple that Janis knows. As for Rowena, my family is friends with a wealthy reclusive family from Europe with a daughter who has never been seen in public. The Sinclairs and their daughter allowed you to become her and even got you a work visa. Their actual daughter recently suffered an accident that left her disfigured and they want to keep it a secret until she undergoes a series of procedures to restore her face. After the weddings it will be revealed that Rowena has returned home to her family to take over the family business. By that time the real Rowena will look like the Rowena you are playing."
"Wow," I say dumbfounded, "I didn't realize this plan was so elaborate."
Duncan assures me that our plan is safe and I return to my apartment. Being Rowena is a lot of work and it's nice to get the chance to be myself. I go online and find that the internet is already abuzz over Mitch Haven's new girlfriend. Most of it is speculation over the girl's identity. Feeling curious, I decide to google Rowena Sinclair and discover that Duncan was right about her being reclusive. I also decide to search for Candace's Facebook profile and discover that she is very active online. She has a Twitter, Tumblr, a YouTube channel where she posts videos of herself playing and singing songs she has written, and a personal website where she posts poetry she has written and photos she has taken. In her biography it says that she learned to take care of herself at a young age and discovered her creative side with the help of the couple who took her in. Unlike Rowena who grew up with every luxury, it was obvious that Candace was a girl who has seen the worst of life and stood up to every challenge.
